An ideal starting point for discovering the Pyrenees

Bourg-Madame is a commune in the Pyrénées-Orientales region (66). It was part of the Languedoc-Roussillon region, now part of the new Occitanie region.
From the sky, discover the many aspects of this land. Its valleys and authentic villages, the Romanesque churches that have stood the test of time for centuries.
To the east, as the crow flies, the great peak of Canigou is some forty kilometers away. To the northeast is the resort of Font-Romeu, then the UNESCO World Heritage town of Mont-Louis, with its fortifications built by Vauban.

Come and take a masterful breath of fresh air, under the serene skies of Bourg-Madame.
Being above the mountains, up to an altitude of 3,000 meters, there are no constraints. There's no need for steep trails to reach wild, hidden and remote places. You can see it all from a hot-air balloon.

Ideal for families, couples and friends, discover the sunrise over the Cerdagne plateau. Soar higher than an eagle. Glide through the air, more gently than a boat on calm waters. Come and experience it all with Art Montgolfières. There's nothing quite like a ride in a hot-air balloon.

At Bourg-Madame, high up in the Pyrenean mountains, for reasons of air and wind stability, flights take place at sunrise. This constraint is a good thing, as it's at this early hour of the morning that the light best illuminates the relief.

Flight appointments can be made at Bourg-Madame on the French side, or at Cerdanya airfield on the Spanish side.

Did you know?

Bourg-Madame is sometimes referred to as France's gateway to Spain and Andorra. The local inhabitants are called Guinguettois and Guinguettoises, as the town was once a simple village, called La Guingueta d'Ix.
Marie-Thérèse de France, aka "Madame Royale", inspired her husband, the Duc d'Angoulême, to name Bourg-Madame. The Duc had been exiled to Spain by Napoleon. He returned to France after Waterloo. It was on this occasion that he decided to elevate the first French village he passed through to the rank of town.

ATTENTION: the meeting point for flights is currently in Spain at Cerdanya / de ALP airport, 17538 Das Fontanals, Girona.
